Children/Youth Curriculum Overview

Beginnings I

This parent’s guide is a complete handbook for daily Bible study with your preschool child.  Each day’s lesson contains several elements that the parent can use depending on the child’s age, attention span, and ability.

Bible Stories teach children about God.

Guided Prayer Thoughts help each child learn how to talk with God.

Bible Words to Remember encourage children to hide God’s Word in their hearts.

Questions: Thinking and Remembering help the student build a solid foundation of Bible knowledge and understanding,

Praise Hymns help children learn songs they can use to praise the Lord.

Virtue Lessons teach application of God’s Word to your child’s life.

Each of the two books in this series contain thirty weeks of daily studies: And It Was Good: Old Testament Lessons for Little Listeners and Precious in His Sight: New Testament Lessons for Little Listeners.  The Beginnings I curriculum has been coordinated for use with our Beginnings II series for Early Elementary students (see below). This series provides a wonderful foundation for parents wanting to establish a pattern of daily study.

Beginnings II

This curriculum is designed for the young reader/writer in the Early Elementary years.  This daily study features large print lessons that are perfect for the young Bible scholar who is ready to read and write on his/her own.

Bible Stories teach children about God.

Questions: Thinking and Remembering help the student build a solid foundation of Bible knowledge and understanding.

Words to Know give brief definitions to help explain difficult words or concepts.

Prayer Thoughts help each child learn how to talk with God.

Bible Words to Remember are provided to encourage and develop memorization skills.

Think About is designed to help your child apply God’s Word to his/her life.

Workbooks in this series contain thirty weeks of daily lessons for your student. Jesus, My Shepherd: New Testament Lessons for Young Readers, is the first of two books to be published in this series.  The Old Testament edition will be available in 2005. Beginnings II is coordinated to be used day by day with our Beginnings I curriculum for preschoolers.

Discovery

This daily study guides students into a careful reading and examination of the Bible text and is designed for the upper elementary student (Grades 3-6).  This course focuses on comprehension and understanding of the content of scripture.  The Bible text for each day’s lesson is printed in the lesson along with questions designed to help the student develop a habit of disciplined, systematic study in a verse by verse method.  Inductive questions are occasionally used in the review portion of each week’s lesson.  Lessons also include:

Map Studies aid the student in understanding the geography of the lesson.

Word Meanings are provided to help students comprehend difficult words and phrases.

Weekly Lesson Reviews help students to retain what they have learned.

This series has been coordinated with our Quest (Jr. & Sr. High) and Adult level books so that families can study the Bible together.  See the Scope and Sequence chart to review titles currently available in this series along with their corresponding studies in the Quest and Adult levels.

Quest

This series is in a daily format style utilizing the inductive study method.  The questions are designed to help the student discover not only what the Bible says, but also to use analytical and reasoning skills in exploring meaning and finally application to his/her life.  Study notes at the end of each lesson provide additional background information, answer many questions that the student may have had as he/she studied, and provide additional life application emphasis.

Questions help each student understand 1) what the Bible says, 2) what it means, and 3) how to apply it to his/her life.

Map Studies aid the student in understanding the geography of the lesson.

Notes give deeper understanding and communicate solid Biblical truths and principles.

Quest lessons make the student think, evaluate, understand, and apply what God is communicating through His Word. This series has been coordinated with our Discovery (Grades 3-6) and Adult level books so that families can study the Bible together.  See the Scope and Sequence chart to review titles currently available in this series along with their corresponding studies in the Discovery and Adult levels.
